Following the Earthquake and Tsunami in the Palu Area, Susi Air Sends Relief Flights and Operations Team
Susi Air has recently been involved in the Earthquake and Tsunami relief efforts in Palu, Sulawesi and were first responders to the scene providing essential supplies and equipment to help deal with the aftermath of this tragic event.
On September 29, 2018, we deployed a total of 4 aircraft, 1 Piaggio P180 Avanti II, 2 Cessna Grand Caravan C208B and 1 LET 410. We have been flying continuously between Palu-Balikpapan and Palu-Mamuju and increasingly involved in bringing medical teams, aid, water, food and other critical supplies to the area. Our operations were dedicated to the relief effort free of charge by our founder, Minister Susi Pudjiastuti.
To date, we are proud to report that we have delivered approximately 42,500 Kg of critical provisions and 100+ aid workers into Palu. In addition, we have evacuated 250+ sick, injured and displaced people from the area. During this time our flight crew have flown more than 70 flights, with a total of 85 hours and our support team has dedicated over 2,000 man-hours around the clock since first arriving in Palu.
-Figure 1: Route Map. Palu (PLW) – Balikpapan (BPN) and Palu (PLW) – Mamuju (MJU)-
Through coordination with the local authorities, military and government agencies, specifically Kementerian Kelauatan dan Perikanan (The Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries Republic of Indonesia), we are pleased to have played our role in minimizing the aftermath that inevitably follows such a terrible event.
We continue to serve Sulawesi through our scheduled routes and will be a part of the Palu and surrounding areas recovery to full strength over the coming months and years.
Our thoughts and prayers are with all those affected and we express our sincere sadness for those who have lost friends and loved ones in this tragic event.
About Susi Air (PT. ASI Pudjiastuti Aviation)
PT. ASI Pudjiastuti Aviation or Susi Air is a holder of Air Operator Certificate AOC 135-028. It was established in 2004 by Minister Susi Pudjiastuti and started with Indonesia’s first two privately operated Cessna Grand Caravan C208B aircraft (seating capacity 12 passengers with maximum payload 1,100 Kg). Minister Susi Pudjiastuti’s initial business plan was to revolutionise Indonesia’s fishing industry where from remote airstrips, the two aircraft were used to transport the daily catch of thousand fishermen along the Java’s southern coastal areas to Jakarta. When the Tsunami struck Aceh in December 2004, in the face of this sudden and overwhelming need, Susi Air’s Cessna Grand Caravans switched from hauling fresh fish to flying round-the-clock relief flights, bringing needed supplies and medical evacuation personnel to remote areas of Indonesia. Susi Air provided the first aid delivery to the fishing town of Meulaboh, on the west coast of Indonesia’s Aceh Province, where at least 15,000 lives were lost in the disaster.
The current fleet includes 32 Cessna Grand Caravan, 9 Pilatus PC-6 Porter, 3 Piaggio P180 Avanti II, LET 410 and 2 Agusta Helicopters. Susi Air offers scheduled flights and on demand charter for VIP guests, groups and cargo. Their qualified will take you to any of the more than 650 destinations in all of Indonesia and to neighboring countries.
